Partitions and the rules
Dubai Municipality acts against unsafe or unpermitted partitions and overcrowded flats, and inspections can force a building to remove them at short notice. That's a real risk for renters: you can lose your home and your deposit. Before you commit, ask:
- Has the landlord agreed in writing to the flat being shared?
- Was the layout approved (a permit for the partition walls)?
- How many people live in the flat in total, and how many share each bathroom?
- Is there a window or proper ventilation, and a smoke detector?
